Tidepooling with Na Pua No'eau
The Center for Gifted and Talented Native Hawaiian Children

On November 15, 1997 a workshop was held at Onekahakaha Beach Park near Hilo for 12 middle-school students from various schools around Hawai'i. Dr. Brian Tissot, an Associate Professor of Marine Biology at the University of Hawai'i at Hilo, led the field trip. Tidepools were explored and measurements were made of ocean salinity as it varied offshore. Discussion of Hawaiian uses of marine organisms and the strong ocean stewardship of native Hawaiians was described. For more information on what was taught check the curriculum guide. Here are a few pictures from the field trip. For more pictures visit the gallery.
