Stages: The young `äweoweo are called `alalauä.
Interesting Stuff: Hawaiians believed that large schools of
the `äweoweo was a sign that an ali`i or high ranking chief, was about to
die. It was also a generous gift or `älana to the goddess Pele. Weo refers
to the red light in the sky during a volcanic eruption.
