Kahalu'u, Hawai'i

Kahalu'u is located on the Kona coast of the island of Hawai'i about 3 miles south of Kailua-Kona and just north of the Keauhou Beach Hotel. A popular spot for locals and visitors alike, Kahalu'u is well known for its safe, shallow water and abundant, colorful fish life. Once a huge native Hawaiian fish pond, the semi-enclosed environment is protected from all but the most giant ocean swells. The protected environment along with the shallow water and friendly people makes Kahalu'u an ideal place to observe marine life, especially surgeonfish, butterflyfish, puffers and scribbled filefish.
